New York Lizards 14, Boston Cannons 13
We saw a great back and fourth game on Long Island on Thursday night. With the superstars in Israel we saw a few new faces make big plays as well as familiar ones too. It was a great game that could have gone anyway as it came right down to the wire.
This game would end with Will Manny getting the game winning goal in the final seconds of the game to get the 14-13 win. The Lizards would be lead on offense by Joe Walters who had 5 goals and 1 assist. Joel Tinney and Will Manny also had good games as Tinney had 3 goals and Manny had 2. In cage for the Lizards Drew Adams would have 16 saves off 29 shots on cage.
Boston would be lead by a great offensive attack from Zed Williams and James Pannell. Williams would end the game with 6 goals and Pannell had 3. It was a great show of offense for the Cannons, especially in the third quarter where they dominated. In cage Nick Marrocco would have 12 saves off of 26 shots on cage.
With this win the Lizards move to a 6-6 record to aide in their playoff push. Their next game will be next week against the Dallas Ratters. The Cannons next game will be against the Charlotte Hounds.
Chesapeake Bayhawks 10 vs Charlotte Hounds 20
In was raining, literally and figuratively, in Annapolis on Saturday as the Hounds just kept on scoring goal after goal. The Houds really looked great as they were able to put the Bayhawks away early.
Kevin Cooper and Dylan Maltz would lead the way on offense. Cooper would have 4 goals and Maltz would have 3 goals. Matt Rambo and Joe McCallion also made some good contributions on offense as well. This great display of offense for the Hounds would help them get out to an early lead that they would hold for the entire game.
The Bayhawks wouldn’t look their best by a long shot. This loss snapped a seven game winning streak for Chesapeake. Despite the loss Colin Heacock would have another great game as he was able to put up 4 goals. In Cage Pierce Bassett had 11 saves.
Chesapeake’s next game will be against the Atlanta Blaze. Charlotte will face the Boston Cannons next week in their next game.
Ohio Machine 10 vs Atlanta Blaze 13
The Atlanta Blaze were able to keep their playoff hopes alive with this 13-10 win over the Ohio Machine.
The Blaze offense would be lead by Connor Kelly, Christian Cuccinello, and Deemer Class. Tommy Paleseak also had a great game for the Blaze as well. Connor Kelly would lead the offense with 3 goals. In cage Adam Ghitleman would anchor that Blaze defense as he had 12 saves.
Peter Baum and Justin Guterding would each have a pair of goals to lead the Machine’s offensive attack. Ryan Ambler and Bryce Wasserman would also have decent showings on offense for the Machine. In cage we would see Kyle Bernlohr get 10 saves.
Atlanta’s will have two games next week against Chesapeake and Florida. Ohio’s next game will be against Florida.
Denver Outlaws vs Dallas Rattlers
The Rattlers would mount a big second half comeback to win off a Ben Reeves goal late in the fourth. With that win the Rattlers captured home field advantage in the playoffs. It was a big win for Dallas but this game was bigger for another reason as well. As you all know, Denver’s top two goalies Jack Kelly and Dillon Ward were in Israel playing for Team USA and Canada. That meant that Kaisuke Iwamoto would make his first MLL start. Iwamoto is was born and raised in Japan and he is now the first Japanese player to play in an MLL game. This was a huge day for the MLL and lacrosse in general.
The Rattlers were down 6-4 at the half but would be able to comeback and get the win. The Rattlers offense was driven by Zack Greer, Ryan McNamara, and Ben Reeves. Greer and McNamara would each have 3 goals a piece. Ben Reeves would finish with 2 goals including the game winner.
Denver played very good all game but that defense just couldn’t stop the Dallas attack. On offesne the Outlaws were lead by Eric Law, Chris Cloutier, and Matt Kavanaugh. Law would end the game with 4 goals, Kavanaugh with 3, and Cloutier with 2. Chris Cloutier did go down in the second half as Dallas goalie Blaze Riorden and Cloutier collied, but it didn’t look to be that bad. I know many, including myself, were holding their breath as the rookie grabbed his knee.
Iwamoto would have 9 saves off of 20 shots in his MLL debut for the Outlaws. I just hope this starts a trend of more international guys in pro lacrosse in North America.
