North Carolina freshman defenseman will miss the entire 2019 season after suffering a torn ACL in practice last week. Inside Lacrosse’s Ty Xanders first reported the story on Friday afternoon and North Carolina head coach Joe Breschi officially announced the news on Friday evening.
Bowen was expected to have a stellar freshman campaign as he came into North Carolina as the number one ranked defenseman and number two player in the country. The freshman out of Boston College High School (MA) was expected to have an impact similar what Yale defenseman Chris Fake did as a freshman last season.
Bowen is player that can really assert his dominance on any opposing offensive player. He can cause his fare share of turnovers as a cover defender and is able to make things happen in transition as well.
North Carolina head coach Joe Breschi also announced that Bowen will take a redshirt this season and will retain his four years of eligibility with the Tar Heels.
With Bowen out this season the Tar Heeks will look for senior LSM Jack Rowlett as well as senior defensemen Michael Nathan and Jack Halpert for the majority of the production. Freshman Evan Egan may also get some solid playing time for the Tar Heels as well.
