The NCAA’s new transfer rule went into effect on October 15th and players could start putting their names in on that date. If you don’t know the NCAA Transfer Portal is a website that contains a list of players names, email addresses, school, sport, and NCAA ID number. A player’s name goes into the portal after they request a release from their school. The portal has revolutionized the NCAA transfer process as players no longer have to request a release from their head coach as they just notify the compliance office of their intent to transfer.

Players who enter the transfer portal don’t necessarily have to leave as they still can remain part of the team. However, a coach can take away the players scholarship at the end of that semester. Think of it as a type of free agency for college athletes.

There has been much talk of the transfer portal in college football as schools like Miami and Oklahoma have been gaining talent through the portal. The same is true for college lacrosse, but it’s obviously not at the same level yet. I expect the transfer portal to heat up a little more as the season ends.

Over the break in between the fall and spring semesters the transfer portal was giving and taking in college lacrosse as there were quite a few guys who put their names in the portal.

Here is a look at some of the players that have put their name in the transfer portal and have found a landing spot or have yet to do so.
