Last season as a sophomore at Allatoona (GA) Amiri Austin helped lead his team to the GHSA quarterfinals where they lost to eventual state champions Centennial. The 5-foot-9, 155 pound shifty attackman is set for his junior year as Austin he hopes to help lead his team even further as a junior in 2019.
Austin said his major goal this season is obviously to help his team win a state championship just like every year. But personally, Austin is eyeing to try to reach 80 points this season while also making 1st or 2nd team All-State.
As a junior Austin was able to start being contacted by college coaches on September 1st of 2018. Austin spent September 1st playing in Inside Lacrosse’s inaugural Midnight Manis event at Delaware Stadium. Austin was one of 88 elite players that attended the inaugural event.
Since that September 1st date of 2018 Austin has been fielding interest from multiple DI programs, but has yet to receive an offer from any school at the moment.
Austin stated that he has received interest from Canisius, Hofstra, Mercer, Cleveland State, Furman, and High Point. As far as who has is pushing the hardest Austin said, “Some schools have obviously pushed harder for visits earlier in the process but every school has been about the same.”
The attackman has taken one visit so far, and that was to Mercer. Austin is planning on taking a visit to Canisius in April and Cleveland State over the summer. As far as making a decision Austin said that will likely come in the spring or early in the summer.
Austin will begin his junior season with Allatoona on February 15th as they take on Pope (GA) in their first game of the season.
