Welcome back to another addition of Recruiting Radar. Continuing the series of breaking down all 75 DI teams 2019 recruiting classes. Moving in reveres alphabetical order we move onto the Wagner Seahawks.

As it sits today Wagner has 10 players currently committed in the 2019 recruiting class. However, Wagner has 14 seniors in this outgoing 2019 class. Because of that the Seahawks have a lot of needs and holes to fill on both sides of the ball, especially in cage.

Attackman

Need: 2

Committed: 2

Grade: B

Wagner will lose just 2 out of 9 attackman currently on their roster after this season. Michael Vanaman from St. Augustine Prep (NJ) and Jake Garb out of Montyville (NJ) are the two attackmen currently committed. These two guys may not make an impact next season, but will be able to develop behind some pretty good players ahead of them.

Defense/LSM

Need: 3-4

Committed: 2

Grade: D

The Seahawks will lose 4 of their 7 defenseman currently on the roster after this season. Wagner does have a lot of young guys returning and will have around 13-14 guys on defense next year, depending on how many poles they run at LSM. Wayne Hills (NJ) product Nick Azzopardi and Adam Shank out of Francis Parker School (CA) are the only defenseman/LSM’s committed in the 2019 class. They will both most likely play LSM but can also play close D.

Faceoff

Need: 0

Committed: 1

Grade: B

Former Robert Morris commit Ryan Whelpley is now heading to Staten Island as the only faceoff man committed in Wagner’s 2019 class. The Seahawks won’t lose either of their two main faceoff guys this year so Whelpley will be a good addition to that faceoff room to add depth and possibly compete for that number one spot.

Goalie

Need: 2

Committed: 1

Grade: C

Wagner was able to get Devin DeGennaro out of Islip HS (NY) as their only goalie commit so far. The Seahawks will lose two seniors, including starter Matt Sefcik. Wagner has done a good job of at least getting a goalie in this class, but only having two cane be a liability at times.

Midfield

Need: 4-6

Committed: 4

Grade: B

With 15 midfielders on the Seahawks roster in 2019 they will lose 6 of them to graduation, including Spencer Kaufman and other key guys. The Seahawks have 4 midfielders currently committed in Westview (CA) product Leo Pimentel, Will Swiderski from Brick Township HS (NJ), Eli Butler out of Poway (CA), and Noah Patterson out of Lampeter Strasburg (PA). With those guys Wagner gets some young depth as well as talent that should be able to help out on both sides of the ball.

That is the breakdown of how Wagner’s 2019 recruiting class looks as of right now. The Seahawks have definitely done some good things on the trail and been able to get some good talent.

With obvious holes left in this class first year head coach Bill McCutcheon should be able to bring new life into thins program and use that energy to help recruiting as well. Their biggest hole is obviously at goalie as they will have a small goaltender next season.

As far as other positions go the Seahawks have established depth with this recruiting class and have found a few guys that have the potential to start the day they step foot on Staten Island as freshman.
