This Saturday is the first with a full slate of games this season, and there are some good ones. With 29 games on the docket there is a lot of lacrosse today, and it all starts at 11am. While we have morning lacrosse there will also be Saturday night lacrosse with Notre Dame vs Detroit Mercy at 7:30 pm to close out the weekend slate of games.
In this first FULL Saturday of games there are two that are sure to catch your eye. Albany vs Syracuse and Loyola @ Johns Hopkins. Albany and Syracuse have had some really fun games over the past few seasons while Johns Hopkins and Loyola are long-standing rivals with the Battle for Charles Street.
Duke vs Denver
The day starts off hot with an 11am start for this top 20 matchup. These two squads have been some of the most dominant in college lacrosse over the past decade. Denver comes into this game after a good 11-4 win over Air Force to start the season. They will look to see how they can continue improve with freshman Brett Boos at the faceoff dot and Ethan Walker being banged up a bit. Duke comes off a good bounce back win after taking a beating in a mid-week upset loss against High Point last week. Duke has been looking to Joe Robertson and others for leadership early on with the Brad Smith being banged up.
Johns Hopkins vs Loyola
Despite the drastic separation these teams may seem to have based on their performances last week, throw out the record books because this is one is a rivalry matchup and none of that matters. These two teams want to win this one, and badly. The Loyola Greyhounds are coming in hot after a big win over Virginia last week where Tewaaraton Award front-runner Pat Spencer notched 7 points to help lead them to victory. The Blue Jays are coming off an upset against Towson as they are still trying t find themselves on both sides of the field, but on offense especially. As always it’s going to be a good one, but don’t be surprised if Loyola is able to get out and run over the Blue Jays like they did last year.
Syracuse vs Albany
This one doesn’t quite have the cache as previous matchups over the past few years with bot the Orange and Danes being a little down from last year. While that may be true, that means this one could be a lot closer than the 2018 addition when Albany blew out Syracuse. The Orange are coming off an upset loss against Colgate in the dome, as well as fighting some injuries with Tucker Dordevic ruled out for the season. Albany has Tehoka Nanticoke and Clarke Patterson back to lead the Danes after making it to Championship Weekend for the first time in program history last season, and then losing a ton of talent through graduation and transfers. This one looks to be much closer than last year and is definitely worth a watch. Also, it will be our first look at the Danes with the shot clock in a real game.
