Week one is in the books and it’s time to move on to week two. As we had a lot of exciting lacrosse played last week, this week presents even more lacrosse to be played with at least one game on the docket each day.

This week action got started Monday night with Manual defeating Tates Creek 12-6. The Crimson move to 2-0 with the win and the Commodores drop to 0-2.

Here are some things to watch for in week two of the high school lacrosse season across the Bluegrass:

Collegiate host Eastern on Tuesday night at 6pm. It will be the first game for both squads, and the first game for Collegiate head coach Bobby Schmitt as a solo head coach. Schmitt was in a co-head coaching role last year alongside Reid Wesley who runs L4 Lacrosse

[Cancelled] – Lexington Catholic welcomes in Trinity on Tuesday night at 7:30pm. The Shamrocks will be looking for their first win of the season against a good Knights squad that started their season strong as they sit at 1-0.

Ballard welcomes in South Oldham on Wednesday night at 6PM. The Dragons are pegged as a “dark horse” in the KSLL, and they will start their season off against an improved Ballard team from a year ago.

South Warren host Bowling Green on Friday night at 5:30pm in the Battle for Bowling Green. This is a rivalry game in every sport and lacrosse in no different. Last year both of meetings were very close, that trend should continue in 2019 as well.

St. Xavier host McCallie (TN) on Friday at 7pm. The Tigers go up against the favorites in Tennessee and one of the most talented teams in the country. This game will feature a lot of future college stars on the McCallie side, while St. Xavier does have Pat Anderson heading to Towson. It should be a good game to watch no matter the outcome.

St. Xavier host Culver (IN) on Sunday 2pm. Culver is ranked in the top three nationally, and has been over the past couple of years. They have future pro’s all over the field. While this will most likely be a blowout loss for St. Xavier, you will get to see the future stars if our game. Many of their alums are killing it in the pros and in college right now.

McCallie (TN) and Culver (IN) will play at St. Xavier at 5pm on Saturday. While this doesn’t feature a Kentucky team, it is the best game going on in the state this week, and overall this season, at the high school level.

The Douglass Invitational will showcase some good lacrosse at Frederick Douglass High School on Saturday. Henry Clay faces George Washington (WV) at 1pm and Frederick Douglass will play Eastern at 3:30pm.

Some other games to watch include: Manual vs Trinity (Thu. 7pm), South Oldham vs Collegiate (Fri. 8pm), Collegiate vs Lexington Catholic (Sat. 1pm).

Schedule Movements: Unfortunately, it is that time of the year here in Kentucky, and other parts of the south, where it’s March but the weather wants to still be winter. Like it or not, there will likely be cancellations this week due to weather as we have already had snow to kickoff the week. Also, with another Jefferson County Public Schools Teacher strike looming, there will likely be cancellations in Louisville due to the schools not being in session that day.

The Sweet 16 is also this week at Rupp Arena and that always interferes with the schedule when a school that is in the Sweet 16 also has a lacrosse game that same day. The only teams that could be affected this year are Trinity, Scott County, Covington Catholic, and Owensboro. It doesn’t appear that there will be any games pushed up, back, or moved this year with the schedule as it is.

Cancelled Games: Lexington Catholic vs Trinity, St. Xavier vs Christian Academy
