The Hampton Pirates went on the road on Wednesday night and defeated Division III opponent Westminster (Pa.). The Pirates had to hols off a fourth quarter comeback as they walked away with a narrow 9-8 win.
Pierce Johnson led Hampton with 3 points (2G/1A), while Lonnie Jones also had 3 points (1G/2A) in the win for the Pirates. Kevin Mondy Jr. made 6 saves in cage. while DT Trowell and Paxtin Powell also saw time in cage as well. At the faceoff dot Ian Groom dominated, winning 14-19 for the Pirates.
Westminster was led by Adrian Culp who tallied 3 points (2G/1A) for the Titans. Ryan Shorts and Joe Rosa also scored two goals as well. Carter Hall made 13 saves in cage for the Titans.
After the Titans scored the first goal of the game, Hampton started getting hot. A 3-goal run to end the first helped them out to a 3-1 lead at the end of the first. They would soon build on that lead throughout the next few periods of play.
Hampton used a 7-goal run from midway through the first until the fourth quarter to help get out to a big 7-1 lead heading into the final period of play. The Pirates seemed to be dominating in every aspect of the game, and then the Titans finally woke up in the fourth and made this thing a game.
Westminster and Hampton traded goals back and forth early on in the fourth quarter, until Westminster really exploded. The Titans were went on a 5-0 run to end the game, three of their goals coming in the last minute. It was a complete turnaround for the Titans, but the Pirates would prevail and still walked away with the win.
After this win Hampton moves to 4-2 on the season, winning their last three games. The Pirates are already looking better now ten they were last season at this time. The Pirates will host VMI next Saturday, March 30th.
