This weekend’s slate of games features some big time conference matchups in the Big Ten, ACC, and the SoCon. One of the biggest gamed this weekend is Saturday afternoon as rivals Duke and North Carolina meet. No matter what year or what each teams record is, the Tobacco Road rivalry is always an exciting one.

As we usually start to see in late March and early April, Big Ten Sunday night lacrosse is back! The first Sunday night matchup on the Big Ten Network this year is a battle between the number one and three ranked teams in the country with Penn State traveling to Maryland.

Marquee Matchups

Syracuse @ Notre Dame

Coming off an overtime win against Duke, the Syracuse Orange travel to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their first road game of the year. Behind breakout stars Brendan Curry and Bradley Voigt the Orange will be looking for their fourth straight win and second ACC win of the year. Notre Dame is looking to rebound after a home loss in overtime to Ohio State last weekend. The Irish have been driven by Brendan Gleasson and Bryan Costible in a surprisingly good offense this season.

Jacksonville @ Air Force

The Jacksonville Dophins head west after upsetting SoCon opponent High Point last weekend. The Dolphins, led by Jack Dolan and Eric Applegate, have had an up and down season but look to finally get some consistence as they go for their third straight win on Saturday. The Falcons were on a four game winning streak before taking a loss at Yale on Tuesday. Behind Trey Lervick the Falcons offense has been deadly at times this season and they will look to attack the Dolphins next and get another SoCon win.

Duke @ North Carolina

A rivalry is renewed on Saturday when Duke and North Carolina meet in the Tobacco Road rivalry. This matchup always makes for a great game and this year shouldn’t be any different. The Blue Devils come into this one looking for a win after losing in overtime to Syracuse last weekend. The Blue devils defense will want to step up with JT Giles-Harris and Cade Van Rapphorst leading that unit. Joe Robertson and Brad Smith should have big games as usual on the offensive side of the field. For North Carolina, the Tar Heels come into this one after getting burned by Maryland. Led by Timmy Kelly, this youthful North Carolina squad has much to prove, and this game could be a huge one for them win or lose.

Penn State @ Maryland

In Sunday night lacrosse action the number one ranked Penn State Nittany Lions travel to take on the number three ranked Maryland Terrapins. Penn State had been dominate this season with Grant Ament leading that impressive offensive attack. With Ament’s status questionable due to “lower-body injury” we should see Mac O’Keefe and others step up more. For Maryland, they might just be the deepest team in the country. Logan Wisnauskas has been their leader this season, but Jared Bernhardt and others have stepped up big time as well. Either way it will be an exciting one!
