A first reported by Evan Schemenauer Vancouver Warriors defenseman Matt Beers has had a major penalty from last weekend upgraded to a match penalty which results in a one game suspension. Beers will most likely not serve the suspension this weekend against the Saskatchewan Rush.

After this Beers is now in danger of violating rule 4.14 repeat offender if he receives another match penalty within a two-year period. Rule 41.4 states “Any player who is assessed a second match penalty or a second Dangerous Contact to the head penalty or combination thereof, within a two-year period, shall be assessed a five game suspension.” Yes, that is the same rule we just saw appealed and time diminished in the Callum Crawford case.

The 9-year veteran will likely not sit this week against Saskatchewan he will miss one game with the Warriors. Beers has been a leader on that defense in Vancouver, racking up 18 turnovers, chasing down 108 loose balls, and tallying 9 assist. Beers has also scored two goals for Vancouver this season as well. In Beer’s absence the Warrios will have to lean more heavily on Ian Hawksbee, Justin Salt, and others for production on the defensive end of the floor.

Vancouver has a road contest against Saskatchewan this weekend and a home contest against Philadelphia next weekend on April 14th. The Warriors are currently sitting at 4-10 but still have a chance at this point to make the playoffs.
