On Monday the San Diego Seals announced that rookie forward Austin Staats would be out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Staats suffered the torn ACL two weeks ago in the Seals 17-10 road loss against the Georgia Swarm. Staats went down in the first quarter of that game, but did come back and finished the game after initially heading to the locker room.

Staats was selected first overall in the 2018 NLL draft by the San Diego Seals. Staats has been electric this season and is the frontrunner for Rookie of The Year. Through 14 games Staats has put up 61 points (32G/29A) while helping the Seals clinch a playoff berth in their first season. The Seals will be missing Staats on the floor for sure, but they do have a plan for life without Staats these final few games and in the playoffs.

San Diego has signed veteran forward Joe Walters. Considered one of the best American’s to ever play in the NLL, Walters has plenty of experience even though he hasn’t played in the NLL since 2016. Being a part of the Rochester Knighthawks 2012, 2013, and 2014 championship teams Walters brings that pedigree to San Diego. He just adds to the great mix f young guns and veterans they already have in San Diego.

With just two weeks left in the regular season, San Diego has two games left. The Seals will face the Colorado Mammoth at home on Friday, April 19th and then travel to Buffalo for their regular season finale on Saturday, April 27th.
