Fairfield athletic director has announced that head men’s lacrosse coach Andy Copelan has stepped down after being at the helm of the Stags for eleven years. He leaves the program with a program best .527 winning percentage.

Copelan led the Stags to an 87-78 overall record during his reign and took them to their first ever CAA championship game appearance in 2016. The Stags won back-to-back CAA regular season championships in 2014 and 2015 with Copelan being named the CAA Coach of The Year after that 2015 season.

While Copelan has had success at Fairfield, the past few seasons have been anything but successful. This past season the Stags went 5-9 overall and 0-5 in the CAA, missing their conference tournament. In 2018 they went 4-11 overall and 1-4 in the CAA.

Copelan has accepted an administrative position and will be the head boys lacrosse coach at Greenwich Country Day School.

Fairfield is the third division one head coaching position that has come open over the past few weeks as Navy and Harvard both fired their head coaches last Thursday.
