Over the past few days there have been two faceoff men that have announced their commitment to play at the next level, and they came from opposite ends of the East.
Wagner got a commitment from Haverford (Pa.) faceoff man Bobby Blewett while Mercer received a commitment from Star’s Mill (Ga.) faceoff man Garrett Meuninck. Both players are in the class of 2020.
The 6-foot 170 pound Blewett out of Haverford (Pa.)/Mesa Fresh likes to win the ball out in from of himself and can help set up the offense that way. Blewett can also dig in and fight for the ball when he doesn’t win the clamp. He also has the ability to soot from midrange and inside if needed, and can also throw crisp passes as well.
Blewett has been helping to lead Haverford to a 16-4 record thus far, securing wins over teams such as Ward Melville (N.Y.), Loyola (Md.), and other perennial powers as well.
The junior out of Starr’s Mill (Ga.)/LB3 is very quick and can really get a fastbreak started when exiting out the front. He is also very strong and can pop the ball out in any direction after a long fight. Meuninck’s speed allows him to get to space and help set the offense up or take it right down the middle for a shot or dish it off for an assist.
Meuninck helped lead Starr’s Mill to a quarterfinal appearance in the GHSA 1A-5A state tournament. The faceoff man is the second in-state commitment for Mercer in the 2020 class.
