Atlas LC and Chaos LC came into Sunday searching for their first win of the season. Ultimately, it would be Chaos taking the game and securing their first win of the inaugural PLL season.
Chaos used a big first half and impressive offense to help blow past Atlas. While Atlas was able to finally find themselves in the second half they just couldn’t complete the comeback.
It only took eight seconds for the scoring to get started as Ryan Brown found the back of the cage for Atlas. That was the last bit of scoring Atlas saw for a while as Chaos got going just a few minutes later.
Kevin Buchanan got the scoring started for Chaos and Matt Rees really got them hot with a two-pointer just, taking a 3-1 lead in just 16 seconds. Following a Miles Thompson goal on the doorstep Jake Froccaro and Matt Rees scored back-to-back two-pointers to push their run to five goals, taking an 8-1 lead.
Atlas finally got things going their way again with Kieran McArdle and Chris Cloutier finding the back of the net in the final minutes of the first. The Atlas defense was also able to step up big time late in the first as well, taking away some prime opportunities from Chaos.
Some beautiful transition got Atlas going early in the second, cutting the Chaos lead to 8-4. Chaos quickly struck back with a power play goal from Jake Froccaro, making it a 9-5 Chaos lead.
After some more back-and-forth play Chaos went on another tear, scoring three straight goals to help push their lead out to 12-5 lead late in the second. Both sides scored late in the second quarter to make it a 13-6 Chaos lead heading into the half.
While Chaos was able to continue their offensive attack with Jake Froccaro scoring early in the third, Atlas really woke up and started to fight back. Following Froccaro’s goal Noah Richard answered for Atlas, cutting the Chaos lead to 14-7.
A lot of defense ensued midway through the third, following a Miles Thompson goal to put Chaos up 15-7. After some back-and-forth play with some big stops on both ends Atlas scored two straight, including a power play goal to make it a 15-8 Chaos lead heading into the fourth.
Josh Byrne got Chaos going early in the fourth with a snipe from outside, sweeping across the top. Atlas really started pushing the issues, going on a two-goal run to cut the Chaos lead tp 16-11 midway through the period.
After having to pop his shoulder back in place on the previous possession, Connor Buczek scored a two-pointer to stretch the Atlas run to three goals late in the game. Chaos was able to hang on and secure the 18-12 win, subduing the comeback from Atlas.
Next week in Chicago Chaos LC will play Redwoods on Saturday while Atlas LC will face Chrome LC on Sunday.
