It was upset city in Atlanta on Saturday evening as Redwoods LC took down Whipsnakes LC, handing them their first loss of the season. In a back-and-forth battle Redwoods were able to get hot late, coming back to complete the upset.
Matt Rambo got the scoring started to put Whipsnakes on the board first early in the game. Redwoods answered pretty quickly with Joe Walter sniping one from the outside and Sergio Salcido finding the back of the net, giving them the 2-1 lead heading into the second.
Defense made up the majority of the the first quarter, but both offense started to wake up in the second. While Matt Kavanagh got the Redwoods offense going in the second, Whipsnakes answered big time.
A two-pointer from Mike Chanenchuk gave Whipsnakes a big boost, but they really got going when Matt Rambo started cooking things up once again. Redwoods did get things going late in the second, cutting the Whipsnakes lead to 7-5 at the half.
The Redwoods offense really got going to start the third with Sergio Perkovic and Matt Kavangah really getting their offense off the ground. After Redwoods took a 9-8 lead Whipsnakes answered, tying things up at 9. Jules Heningburg found the back of the net late to give Redwoods a 10-9 lead heading into the fourth.
While Jules Heningburg started the scoring in the fourth, putting Redwoods up 11-9 Whipsnakes answered with a two-goal run. Matt Rambo scored yet again to tie things up at 11 for Redwoods midway through the fourth.
After some more back-and-forth play Kyle Harrison sniped one from outside to secure the 12-11 win for Redwoods, knocking off Whipsnakes.
