NLL Hands Out 2019 Compensatory Draft Picks

The NLL has announced teams that will receive compensatory draft pick in the upcoming 2019 NLL Entry Draft and where those picks will be placed. Teams are awarded compensatory draft picks due to losing a player who is an unrestricted free agent during the free agency period prior to season. 

Colorado, Halifax, New England, Saskatchewan, and Toronto have all been awarded compensatory picks in the 2019 NLL draft due to losing players who were unrestricted free agents prior to the 2018-19 season. 

In return for losing Greg Downing during free agency prior to the 2018-19 season, the Colorado Mammoth have been awarded a compensatory pick at the end of the second round (31st overall) of the 2019 NLL draft and in the third round of the 2020 NLL draft. Colorado will now have two picks in second round of the 2019 NLL Entry Draft.

The NLL has awarded the Thunderbirds a compensatory selection at the end of the first round in return for losing Matt Vinc in free agency prior to the 2018-19 season. They will also get a pick at the end of the first round of the 2020 draft. The Halifax Thundebirds will now have the fifth and fourteenth picks in the first round of the 2019 draft. 

New England has been awarded a compensatory pick at the end of the first round (17th overall) of the 2019 NLL draft in return for losing Aaron Bold during free agency prior to the 2018-19 season. The Black Wolves will now have the third (from Philadelphia) and seventeenth pick in the first round of the upcoming 2019 NLL draft. 

Saskatchewan now holds the fourth (from Vancouver), ninth, tenth (from Toronto), and the sixteenth pick in the 2019 NLL Draft. The NLL has awarded the Rush with a compensatory pick at the end of the first round (16th overall) of the 2019 NLL draft in return for losing Dan Dawson in free agency prior to the 2018-19 season. 

The Toronto Rock have been awarded a compensatory pick at the end of the first round (15th overall) of the 2019 NLL draft in return for losing Brodie Merrill during free agency prior to the 2018-19 season. The Rock will also receive a compensatory pick at the end of the second round of the 2020 NLL draft. 

The 2019 NLL Entry draft is scheduled for September, 17th and a date is to be determined. The expansion New York Riptide will have the first selection while the expansion Rochester Knighthawks will have the second pick. 

Saskatchewan has the most picks in the first round with four while Halifax, Georgia, and New England will have the second most with two each.
