On Friday morning, it was announced that Wes Berg had been acquired by the San Diego Seals in a three-team trade that also involved the Calgary Roughnecks and Rochester Knighthawks.
San Diego traded forward Turner Evans to Rochester in exchange for defenseman Shane Simpson. Rochester had just selected Simpson in the NLL Expansion Draft on Tuesday after Calgary left him unprotected.
San Diego then flipped Simpson back to Calgary along with the eighth overall pick in the 2019 draft and a second-round pick in 2021 in exchange for forward Wes Berg.
Berg played three seasons in Calgary and was a crucial part of their offense. He had 232 points (99G/133A) during his time as a Roughneck. Berg sat out last season due to a contract dispute with the club.
While the Seals gets the star player in Berg, the Roughnecks get back a young defenseman in Simpson and now hold the seventh and eight picks in the 2019 NLL draft. The Knighthawks also get a rising talent in Evans who was sixth in scoring for San Diego last season. Also, Rochester has a cousin connection on their roster now with Turner Evans joining his older cousin Shawn.
