
The Halifax Thunderbirds have announced that Mike Accursi will lead the franchise as their inaugural head coach in Halifax. This will be Accursi’s first stint as a head coach in the NLL.
Prior to taking the reigns in Halifax, Accursi spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Rochester. He also served as the Knighthawks director of lacrosse operations for three season prior to starting his coaching career.
a press release Accursi said, “To become the first coach of the NLL Halifax Thunderbirds is a tremendous honour and I am grateful to Curt Styres for giving me this opportunity. We have a talented group of players and I’m excited to bring this team to the wonderful city of Halifax.”
Accursi retired from playing in 2014 following a 17-year career. The Ontario native played seven seasons with the Rochester Knightawks, including the final four seasons of his NLL career. He also played for Buffalo, Syracuse, and Edmonton throughout his 17-year career, winning five NLL championships.
