Just over a week after being selected by the New York Riptide in the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft defenseman/transition player Jeff Cornwall is on his way back to Saskatchewan. The Riptide have sent Cornwall back to the Rush in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2019 NLL Entry Draft.
In a press release following the expansion draft, Rush Head Coach and General Manager Derek Keenan stated that they were trying to re-acquire Cornwall from the Riptide.
Cornwall was drafted by Buffalo in the 2011 draft but only played five games with the Bandits before being sent to the Edmonton Rush. Cornwall has been with the Rush organization since that move and has been a key piece of their defense.
The veteran defenseman has been with the franchise for all three championships (2015,2017,2018). Cornwall has racked up 92 points (37G/55A), caused 257 turnovers, and chased down 554 loose balls throughout his career. However, he did not play last season for Saskatchewan due to outside commitments.
