J.P. Brazel and Mike Chanenchuk have been hired at Stony Brook, rounding out Anthony Gilardi’s inaugural coaching staff. Brazel will serve as associate head coach and defensive coordinator while Chanenchuk will serve as offensive coordinator.
Brazel comes to Stony Brook after spending the past eight seasons as an assistant coach at Hofstra, his alma mater. Prior to his time at Hofstra, Brazel was an assistant at Delaware during the 2011 season and spent three years as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart.
He also spent time at Manhattan after getting his coaching career started at Nassau Community College. As a player, Brazel was the starting goalie at Hofstra in 2001 and 2002.
Chanenchuk comes to Stony Brook after a two-year stint as an assistant at Sacred Heart. A 2014 Maryland grad, Chanechuk started his college career at Princeton before finishing at Maryland. He was a standout, and named an All-American at both schools.
Currently, Chanenchuk plays professionally for Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club in the PLL. He played in the PLL All-Star game over the weekend in Los Angeles.
