The San Diego Seals and Saskatchewan Rush are just two of many teams that have been busy during the opening day of the NLL Free Agency period. The Seals have signed seven players, including three newcomers, while the Rush have re-signed just one player thus far.
San Diego re-signed defensemen Drew Belgrave and Tor Reinholdt, and forward Jules Heningburg. Belgrave played in all 18 games for the Seals last season, putting up five points (1G/4A), chasing down 50 loose balls, and causing 17 turnovers. A six-year veteran, Reinholdt put up career-highs last season with 12 points (1G/11A) and chased down 106 loose balls. As a rookie, Heningburg only saw action in one game, but did record a goal.
The Seals have also signed four newcomers, including St. Catherine’s Jr. A goalie Nick Damude. He led the OJALL in saves this summer with 369 with an .842 save percentage. Coquitlam Adnacs Jr. A forward Dennon Armstrong and Langley Thunder Jr. A forward Dalton Lupul have also signed with the Seals.
The Saskatchewan Rush have signed eight-year veteran transition player Jeremy Thompson to a new two-year contract deal with the franchise. Thompson has been the Rush’s primary faceoff man, in addition to contributing in transition and on the offensive end.
Originally drafted by Buffalo in the 2011 draft, Thompson tallied 10 points (3G/7A), scooped up 208 loose balls, and caused 25 turnovers last season. Thompson has been with the Rush franchise since being acquired prior to the 2013 season.
