According to Ohio State’s The Lantern, the school’s Board of Trustees will be voting on a $20 million lacrosse at their meeting on Thursday.
The stadium, if approved will seat 2,5000. The stadium will be located behind their football practice facility and east of their volleyball stadium, Covelli Center, which also houses multiple other sports as well.
Construction of the new stadium would begin next October with a completion date set for November of 2021, making the stadium open for lacrosse starting with the 2022 season. According to the initial report, Designing and bidding for the stadium would take place from September 2019 to September 2020.
Currently, Ohio State plays at Ohio Stadium “The Horseshoe” which is the primary home of the Ohio State football team, and seats 102,082 and is the fourth largest college football stadium in the country.
This move to possibly add a lacrosse only stadium comes just two years after Michigan opened their new multi-million dollar lacrosse only facility and one year after Penn State finished their multi-million dollar upgrade to Panzer Stadium, the home of Nittany Lions lacrosse. On a smaller scale, Jacksonville revealed new a multi-million dollar lacrosse only facility in the spring.
