CUFLA Week One: McGill, Trent Start Strong

The 2019 CUFLA season got underway this past weekend with five games going down on Saturday and two games being payed on Sunday. While just week one a few teams made some noise and turned some heads with their play on the field to start the season. 

Notable Games

McGill 13, Nipissing 9

In a very back-and-forth battle, McGill was able to pull out the win over Nipissing with a very strong second half effort. McGill a slim 7-5 lead into the half, but put up three points in the third and the fourth while also warding off an impressive offense from Nipissing to secure the win. 

Maxime Murdoch led the way for McGill with five points (3G/2A) in the win. In addition, Cameron McGinnis also put up four points (3G/1A) for McGill in the win. Nipissing was led by Scott Dominey who put up a whopping seven points (3G/4A). 

Trent 8, Bishop’s 5

With both teams coming off wins on Saturday, Trent was able to subdue a Bishop’s comeback and secure the win. Trent started the game off very strong, leading 5-0 at the end of the first and 6-1 at the end of the second. Bishop’s started to get things together in the second half, and especially in the fourth with a 4-0 run. However, their comeback would be stopped short as Trent secured the win to move to 2-0 after the first week of the season. 

Trent was led by Cody McMahon with four points (3G/1A) in the win. Cheeto Andreoli and Adam Kitchen each had four points (2G/2A) for Trent, as well. Bishop’s saw Devlin Kauffeldt and Hank Wulder lead the way with two points (1G/1A) each for the Gaiters.
