CUFLA Week Two: McGill Beats Trent In Thriller, Brock and Western Domiante

With week two of the CUFLA season in the books every team has gotten their season underway. During week two, defending champs Western started their quest for a fourth title as they blew out Guelph. 2019 runner-ups Brock also got their season underway, taking down Toronto in a blowout win on Saturday. In addition, McGill moved to 2-0 on the year after coming from behind to defeat Trent in a double overtime thriller. 


McGill 8, Trent 7 (2OT) 

McGill moves to 2-0 on the season after coming back from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Trent 8-7 in double overtime. Defenseman Tanner Baldin scored the shorthanded game winner for McGill. 

While things were tied at the end of the first quarter, Trent took over in the second and was able to secure a 6-3 lead heading into halftime. A second half hat-trick from Andrew Chase and some great defensive play helped spark a comeback from McGill in the third and through the fourth. Chase scored McGill’s final goal in the fourth to send things to overtime. Following a defensive led first overtime, Tanner Baldin netted the game winner for McGill in the second overtime period. 

McGill was led by Andrew Chase with four points (3G/1A) while Trent saw Nick Chaykowski and Adam Kitchen lead the way with three points (2G/1A). 

Brock 16, Toronto 4

The 2018 Baggatway Cup runner-ups started the 2019 season on a very strong note, defeating Toronto in a blowout victory. Brock got out to a 9-0 halftime lead and very looked back as they routed Toronto 16-4. 

Western 14, Guelph 3

Three-time defending Baggataway Cup champions Western Mustangs started their 2019 season with a dominating 14-3 win against Guelph. Western got up early and never looked back as they sprinted to victory.

Carleton vs Trent – 1-17
