In the WILC opener for both squads, Canada absolutely devoured USA in a 16-6 victory. Canada was able to get up early and they never looked back, sprinting to victory in this one. Canada is now 24-0 all-time in WILC play.
Canada was led by Mark Matthew with seven points (3G/4A) while Shayne Jackson and Robert Church each put up six points (2G/4A) in the win. Dillon Ward had a save percentage of .857 in net for Canada.
Kieran McArdle and Blaze Riorden each netted a hat trick as the only two goal scorers for USA. McArdel also tallied two assists, as well. In net, USA both David Mather and Gowah Abrams with Mather getting the start and playing the majority of the minutes.
Ben McIntosh got the scoring started early for Canada with a power-play goal. USA answered fairly quickly with an outside bouncer from Kieran McArdle. However, Canada went on a six-goal run to create plenty of distance. Blaze Riorden did score with under a minute in the first to give USA their first of the game.
While USA stepped up on the defensive end in the second quarter, Canada still saw Shayne Jackson and Zach Currier put the ball in the back of the net to give Canada a 9-2 halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the third as Canada scored three goals to start the third, including power-play goals from Curtis Dickson and Robert Chruch. USA finally broke through, ending their 28-minute scoring drought with a Blaze Riorden finish on the inside late in the third.
With Canada holding a 12-4 lead heading into the fourth, this game was over and had been for quite sometime. However, Kieran McArdle scored twice and Blaze Riorden scored once for USA in the fourth quarter. Canada saw Dane Dobbie and Shayne Jackson score once during the fourth while Mark Matthews had two goals in the quarter.
Canada was able to walk away with the dominating 16-6 win over USA to open the 2019 WILC. With the win, Canada continues their undefeated streak in WILC play.
On Friday, USA will face Israel and Canada will face England.
