In battle between two teams searching for their first win of the 2019 WILC, USA came out victorious over Israel. While things were fairly close early on, USA was able to really pull away in the second half to secure the 18-10 win.
USA was led by Kieran McArdle with nine points (2G/7A) while Joe Resetarits also contributed heavily, putting up eight points (4G/4A) in the win. Gowah Abrams played the full sixty minutes in net for the USA, making 26 saves off of 26 shots for a .722 save percentage.
Adam Wolf led Israel with six points (1G/5A). Jean-Luc Chetner also tallied five points (3G/2A) in the contest for Israel. In net, Zach Higgins made 26 saves off of 44 shots for a .591 save percentage.
USA got on the board first with Adam Oskia finding the back of the net early in the first off a Kieran McArdle feed. Israel answered just a few minutes later with a goal from Kyle Bergman. USA answered in a big way, starting to dominate possession as they went on a two-goal run.
Heading into the second, USA held a 5-3 lead over Israel after some back-and-forth play in the final minutes of the first quarter. That back-and-forth play continued early on in the second with Joel White and Kyle Bergman scoring just a minute apart for USA and Israel. A two-goal run for USA midway through the second helped them pull away a bit more, but Jean-Luc Chetner answered for Israel to end nearly six minute scoring drought.
A five-goal USA run from late in the second through late in the third really put this one away as Israel just didn’t have the legs to force a huge comeback. During that run, Joe Resetarits found the back of the net three times while Kieran McArdle and Connor Buczek each scored once.
While Adam Wolf, Jean-Luc Chetner, and Daniel Deckelbaum scored three straight for Israel from late in the third through early in the fourth, it just wasn’t a big enough spark. USA was able to hang on and pull out the victory.
Both squads will be in action tomorrow as USA faces the Iroquois Nationals and Israel faces England.
