Following week three of the 2019 CUFLA season, Western (3-0), McGill (4-0), and Brock (2-0) are the only three teams that are still sporting undefeated records. Each of those three played at least one game this weekend as Western devoured Toronto, McGill beat Ottawa and Queens, and Brock escaped in a one-goal victory over Guelph.

Trent 11, Nipissing 9

In a battle between two very strong offenses, Trent (5-1) was able to subdue a late game comeback and defeat Nipissing (2-2) on the road. This one really was a game of runs as each team seemed to just continuously go back-and-forth at each other all game.

While Trent was able to get ahead 5-1 heading into the second quarter, Nipissing fought back and cut the lead to 6-3 heading into the half after a more defensive heavy second quarter. Trailing 10-5 heading into the fourth, Nipissing went on a four-goal in the final period but could not complete the comeback as Trent escaped with the 11-9 victory.

Queen’s 11, Bishop’s 10

What looked to be a blowout in the making at the half turned out to be a very tight contest that came right down to the wire. Queen’s (2-2) was able to escape with the narrow victory over Bishop’s (1-4).

After trailing 5-2 at the half, Bishop’s was able to put it together on both ends of the field late in the third. A four-goal midway through the fourth helped them come all the way back and get within one. However, Queen’s was able to hang on and escape with the narrow 11-10 victory.

McGill 4, Queen’s 3

It was a low scoring defensive battle as McGill (4-0) was able to edge Queen’s (2-2) on Sunday afternoon.

Cameron McGinnis got McGill on the board early in the first and Emmet Donahoe finally broke the ice for Queen’s early in the second, tying things up at 1. Hunter Zawada found the back of the net just minutes later to put McGill up 2-1 heading into the half. McGill ultimately won this one in the third as they were able to get ahead 4-2 heading into the fourth. Carter McKenzie scored the final goal of the game for Queen’s, making it a 4-3 final score.
