The Bellarmine Knights are the 47th DI team to announce their 2020 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Knights come into the 2020 season following a 2019 campaign in which they went 3-10 overall, 3-4 in SoCon play, and missed the SoCon tournament for the third consecutive season. Bellarmine had a coach change over the summer as Jim Mitchell stepped down following just one year. Andy Whitley was hired as the fifth head coach in Bellarmine lacrosse history.

Key Games

2/1 @ Utah

In their inaugural season last year, Utah defeated Bellarmine 10-9. A four-goal run in the first quarter helped Utah claim a 6-2 lead heading into the second. Bellarmine was able to go on a run of their own in the second and third, but Utah was able to hold on for the win. This year’s matchup has the chance to be another close contest.

2/11 vs Hampton

This meeting will feature two programs that have new head coaches and are looking to move in an upward trajectory after being staying pretty stagnant for the past few seasons. Also, could this matchup eventually become a conference game in a few years? We’ll have to wait on that.

3/28 @ High Point

Bellarmine gave High Point a real scare last season, but the Panthers were able to get out of Louisville with a narrow 15-14 victory. Last season, Bellarmine held a 9-7 halftime lead before the Panthers went on two big runs in the second half to help them get ahead and seal the deal. A Bellarmine shot went wide with just 25 seconds left in the game to allow High Point to run the clock out. High Point has a 4-2 series lead against Bellarmine and games between the two are usually fairly close.

4/4 @ VMI

The Knights hold a 10-0 all-time series lead over VMI. But last year’s game wasn’t easy for the Knights as they defeated the Keydets 13-12. VMI went on a four-goal run in the fourth quarter and almost completed the comeback. Jordan Dondoyano made 13 saves to help the Knights secure the one-goal win.
