The San Diego Seals will be hosting the Vancouver Warriors in a home game on February 22nd. But Pechanga Arena will not play host to this game as the Seals will host the Warriors on the runway at Marine Corps Air Station Mirmar in San Diego, Calif.
Being called ‘Rumble on The Runway’, this contest will be the first ever professional sporting event on an active marine base in U.S. history.
In a press release, NLL commissioner Nick Sakiewicz said, “The NLL has a long history of supporting our servicemen and women in Canada and the United States and we are thrilled to support the Seals in making history and honoring our active duty, reservists and retired military members.”
For the game, the Seals will build an outdoor arena on the runway with limited seating capacity to accommodate season ticket members and select active duty, reservists and retired military personnel. Also, the Seals will take part in multiple events in the week leading up to the game.
Miramar has been an active military base since 1929 and currently houses more than 12,200 Marines, Sailors and civilians, and covers more than 23,100 acres.
