After Week five action, the 2019-20 NLL season has been alive for roughly a month now. While the scheduling hasn’t allowed for every team or player the same opportunity to showcase their talents equally, there have certainly been teams that have stood out during the first month of the season.
Here are three team who have impressed during the first month of the NLL season.
The only other team currently undefeated, Halifax had more eyes on them coming into the season than most teams due to their move from Rochester over the Summer. And while many had high expectations both on and off the floor for this team, it’s pretty safe to say they have met those.
Halifax has seemed to create a lot of buzz and fanfare already. And their play on the floor night in and night out might just have a little something to do with that as they have been getting contributions from guys like Cody Jamieson, Kyle Jackson, Jake Withers, and more, and continue to put up gaudy numbers every game. Also, goalie Warren Hill hasn’t looked bad this season, either.
Coming off an absolute drubbing against Buffalo, a team that played in the NLL Finals last season, Halifax is hot and will certainly be a team to keep an eye on as the season ages.
New England Black Wolves
The Black Wolves, hands down, have been the most impressive team in the league through the first month of the season. A 3-0 record, highlighted by a marquee road victory over Saskatchewan, speaks for itself.
But looking beyond their record, they have been great is pretty much every area of the game. New England leads the league goals, assists, and points, and is sixth in loose balls and has players who rank in the top amongst the league in multiple statical categories. And they also have the league’s scoring leader in Callum Crawford leading their offense, as well.
New England is the hottest team in the league right now and if they keep playing at this level it could be a special season for the Black Wolves.
After ending last season on somewhat of a high note, the Colorado Mammoth have seemingly taken that energy to help them get off to a hot start this season, as well. currently sitting at 2-1, the Mammoth have turned a lot of heads during the first month or so of the season.
Despite losing a very close contest against Saskatchewan at home to start the season, the Mammoth have since taken down two elite teams in the defending champions Calgary Roughnecks and the Georgia Swarm. And in all of their games, they have been able to set the tone and make the opposition play exactly how they want them to, at times.
Colorado may be a younger team, but coming off a bit of a down year last season, they could make some real noise. And with goalie Dillon Ward playing the way he is right now, anything seems possible for this squad.
