On Friday, both Chrome LC and Waterdogs LC announced assistant coach hirings to fill out their new/inaugural staffs.
Chrome LC has announced that Nick Fiorentino and Jaques Monte will join newly-minted head coach Tim Soudan as assistant coaches for the club. Both have prior experience working with Soudan during his time as the head coach of the MLL’s Rochester Rattlers (now Dallas Rattlers).
Fiorentino, a two-time national champion and 2008 Salisbury grad, is currently the head men’s lacrosse coach at SUNY Geneseo. He got his start in coach at his alma mater before moving on to become the associate head coach at Ohio Wesleyan, a position he held from 2010-2013. He also spent time as an assistant at RIT and SUNY Cortland before taking over as the head coach at SUNY Geneseo in 2017.
At the professional ranks, he served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Rochester Rattlers during the 2016 season, being responsible for sponsorship sales, public relations, marketing, game-day operations, and ticket sales.
Monte, a member of the Greater Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, has over a decade of professional lacrosse experience. After a college career at Hobart where he was part of three national championship teams, he played professionally for the Detroit Turbos of the MILL, which became known as the NLL in 1998. He served as an assistant for the Rattlers in Rochester under Tim Soudan and in Dallas under current Rattlers head coach Bill Warder.
The Fairport, N.Y. native is a physical education teacher at Fairport High School, his alma mater, and has also coached both football and lacrosse there, as well.
Waterdogs LC has announced the hiring of Robert Cross and Brendan Dawson to round out the club’s inaugural staff. Former Fairfield head coach Andy Copelan will lead the club as head coach, the league announced earlier in the week.
Cross played in college at UMBC, where he graduated in 2005. He started his coaching career at Mercyhurst in 2006 before returning to his alma mater, where he served as co-offensive coordinator from 2007-2009. He also spent time as an assistant at Harvard, Rutgers, Delaware, and Siena.
An upstate New York native, he is currently the head boy’s lacrosse coach at Northfield Mount Hermon, Ma., where he also works as an admissions counselor.
Dawson played at Salisbury where he was a captain on two national championship teams, graduating in 2004. He got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Salisbury before moving on to become the defensive coordinator at Dickinson in 2009. He became the first head coach at Aurora in 2011 before also serving as the head coach at Widener and Haverford College.
After serving as an assistant boy’s coach at Haverford School last season, Dawson takes the reigns as head coach this season, succeeding legendary head coach John Nostrant. He also serves as the assistant athletic director at Haverford School, as well.
