2020 Schedule Preview: UMBC Retrievers

The UMBC Retrievers are the 73rd DI program to announce their 2020 men’s lacrosse schedule. UMBC comes into the 2020 season following a 2019 campaign where they went 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the America East. The Retrievers defeated Stony Brook and Vermont in the America East semifinals and championship game before beating Marist in the NCAA Play-In game. They lost to Penn State in the NCAA first round.

Key Games

2/22 @ Mount St. Mary’s 

The Retrievers started last season 1-7 before finishing strong. That one win through the first month of the season came against the Mount St. Mary’s, who won the NEC regular season title. UMBC defeated the Mountaineers in a close 13-10 contest. 

3/14 @ Vermont

UMBC and Vermont met twice last season. Vermont won their first meeting 12-11 in a double overtime contest, but the Retrievers upset the Catamounts in the America East championship game, winning 14-13. With how close their past few contest have been, the Retrievers and Catamounts could produce another close on in 2020. 

4/17 @ UMass Lowell

One of three overtime contest for the Retrievers last season, the River Hawks gave took them to overtime in a late April contest, almost eliminated UMBC from gaining an America East tournament bid. Dylan Rhatigan scored with 5:07 in the fourth to put UMass Lowell ahead late, but a Trevor Patschorke goal with two seconds in regulation forced overtime for UMBC. Isaac Bot scored the game-winner in overtime for the Retrievers.
