The first week of the NCAA season – called week zero by many- is officially in the books. And while there were outstanding performances across the country, here’s our three stars from week zero.
First Star
Brandon Dodd, Attack, Air Force
The Freshman made his presence know early and led the way in the Falcons’ upset victory over Duke in Durham. He finished the game with eight points (4G/4A), including the eventual game-winner with just :48 seconds left on the clock. Dodd truly was a revelation for the Falcons, causing havoc and slicing and dicing the Duke defense all game.
Second Star
Grant Ament, Attack, Penn State
The Tewaaraton front-runner, who just had surgery on his foot in November, came out firing in Penn State’s 16-9 Lafayette. Ament finished the game with 10 points (4G/6A), putting everyone on alert to start the season.
Third Star
Chris Gray, Attack, North Carolina
Boston U. transfer Chris Gray made his North Carolina debut on Saturday in their 19-6 win over Colgate. And the 5-foot-7 attackman came out like a firecracker, scoring four goals in the first quarter. He ended the game with five points (4G/1A) in the victory.
Honorable Mention
Will Yorke, Attack, Bucknell – (5 goals)
Logan Wisnauskas, Attack, Maryland – (6 goals)
Colin Burke, Attack, Utah – (2G/4A)
Parker Green, Goalie, High Point – (20 Saves)
