Major League Lacrosse (MLL) has announced that their newest franchise will be called the Connecticut Hammerheads.
The franchise will be located in Fairfield, Conn. and play their games at Rafferty Stadium on the campus of Fairfield University. The stadium seats 3,500 and played host to a MLL semifinal game in 2016.
“MLL enjoyed a tremendous experience hosting a 2016 semifinal game at Fairfield, and we know that Fairfield University offers our athletes, fans and partners the ideal viewing experience. With a growing national spotlight in our sport, Connecticut seemed a perfect fit to host the next MLL team,” MLL Commissioner Sandy Brown said.
This announcement comes just one day after the league announced that the Dallas Rattlers would cease operations. Rattlers’ players rights will be transferred to the Hammerheads and former Rattlers head coach Bill Warder will be the head coach.
