Major League Lacrosse (MLL) has announced that their newest franchise will be called the Philadelphia Barrage.
The Barrage are the second ever MLL franchise to call Philadelphia home. From 2004-2008 the City of Brotherly love was home to an MLL franchise, which was also called the Philadelphia Barrage. The original Barrage franchise won three MLL titles (2004,2006,2007).
MLL is resurrecting the old Barrage logo’s for this new Barrage franchise.
Spence Ford, who has worked in many roles with the Atlanta Blaze will be leading the Barrage as head coach. Ford has also spent time on the Chesapeake Bayhawks staff, as well. Ford also played in the MLL for multiple years, officially retiring in 2009.
“Fans will see the best talent lacrosse has to offer in the men wearing the Barrage blue and orange. The tradition of success built in ’04 to ’08 is not lost on me. We look forward to bringing the trophy home to Philadelphia at the end of the season,” said Ford.
This announcement comes just one day after the league announced that the Atlanta Blaze would cease operations. Blaze players will have their rights moved to the new Philadelphia Barrage franchise.
