The PLL Offseason Trade Window opened last Monday. And much like the in-season trade window, the first trade since the trade window becoming open is a big one as Chaos LC have traded midfielder Myles Jones to Redwoods LC for midfielder Sergio Salcido and second round draft pick in 2020.
Multiple sources told Lacrosse Bucket on Wednesday that Jones would be sent to Redwoods for Salcido and there was some buzz and rumors around the trade all week. The league officially announced the deal on Saturday morning.
Both players were top five scorers on their respective teams last season and were both named PLL All-Stars.
Jones helped lead Chaos to a 7-3 regular-season record and a first overall seeding in the championship bracket. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound midfielder recorded 18 points (7G/10A), including a two-pointer, during the regular season. He and Jake Froccaro dished out the most assists, 10, of amongst midfielder on Chaos.
Salcido tallied 20 points (10G/9A), including a two-pointer, for Redwoods during the regular season. He helped lead Redwoods to a PLL Championship appearance, where they lost to Whipsnakes LC.
In this trade, Redwoods gain a superb alpha dog at the midfield with Jones. Pair Jones up with another big, physically imposing midfielder in Sergio Perkovic and you turn an already scary midfield unit into a lethal midfield unit. Jones, who didn’t see as much production as many would have liked to see on an attack-heavy Chaos team, could thrive in this Redwood’s offense.
Salcido, who is 5-foot-7, is a speed demon and elite dodger. He can play like lightning out of a bottle. Adding him to their offense gives Chaos another ball dominant dodger who has shown how much of a threat he can be in this league at times.
