Syracuse senior goalie Drake Porter has announced that he will be returning for a fifth year in 2021, taking advantage of the NCAA’s ruling that grants spring sport athletes an extra year of eligibility due to their 2020 seasons getting cut short because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Porter made the announcement via a statement that was posted on his Instagram on Thursday afternoon.

“My teammates and I will do whatever it takes to bring a national championship back to ‘Cuse.” Porter said in the statement.

The Aurora, Ont. native ended the season with a 57.7% save percentage through the Orange’s five games and was averaging 12.8 saves per game. He was named a third-team Media All-American by Inside Lacrosse.

Porter, who moved into the starting goalie spot at the start of 2019, has a career save percentage of .569% and has totaled 246 saves during his Syracuse career, thus far.

Porter is the second Syracuse senior to announce their return in 2021, following faceoff man Danny Varello.
