Marist senior midfielder Joe Tierney will be coming back for an extra year in 2021, taking advantage of the NCAA’s ruling that grants spring sport athletes an extra year of eligibility due to their seasons getting cut short because of the Coronavirus outbreak. The announcement was made on Marist lacrosse’s Twitter account Monday morning.
“I could not imagine passing up on the opportunity to put on the Marist uniform again and play the game I love with the team that I love,” Tierney said in the statement posted on Twitter.
Tierney, who was a two-time captain (2019,2020) and given the famed No.34 jersey this season, has been one of the Red Foxes’ key players on the offensive end since he first arrived on campus as a freshman. He has amassed a total of 105 points (52G/53A) during his career at Marist thus far.
The Bethpage, N.Y. native tallied 17 points (10G/7A) this past season, starting in four out of six games.
