Jared Bernhardt to Play Football at DII Power Ferris State Next Season

Maryland seniors attackman Jared Bernhardt will use his fifth and final year of eligibility as an NCAA athlete playing football at DII Powerhouse Ferris State (Michi.) in 2020.

Bernhardt made the announcement in an interview with NCAA.com on Sunday. Inside Lacrosse was the first to report the news

The Longwood, Fla. native was a three-time USILA All-American selection (2017,2018,2019) during his career at Maryland, He was also a two-time All-Big Ten selection (2018,2019) and was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award in 2019. 

Bernhardt ends his college lacrosse career with 191 career points (131G/60G). He tallied 78 points (51G/27A) during 2019, where he helped lead the Terrapins to the NCAA Quarterfinals. He had 29 points (20G/9A) in Maryland’s six games during 2020. 

Bernhardt played football in high school at Lake Brantley (Fla.), where he was a quarterback and ran the option system. His dad, Jim Bernhardt, was lifelong football coach at the college and pro level. He was on staff with the Houston Texans before his passing in June of 2019. 

At Ferris State, Bernhardt walls into a program that is coming off a 12-1 season, with their only loss coming to West Florida in the NCAA DII Semifinals. The Bulldogs have only lost four games over the past three seasons. They made a national title appearance in 2018.
