Hampton Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall, Jr. has announced that the Pirates will suspend all sports for the spring of 2021.
This decision impacts the sports of Football, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, Co-Ed Sailing, Softball, Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Women’s Triathlon and Men’s Lacrosse. However, the Pirates’ men’s and women’s basketball teams will play modified schedules.
“This decision was not taken lightly, but it was in concert with the announcement from the University to continue with virtual instruction for the spring 2021 semester,” said Marshall.
Hampton’s men’s lacrosse team was set enter their fifth season as a program and first season under new head coach Chazz Woodson. The Pirates went 0-6 during the shortened 2020 season, which saw them play the largest number of DI opponents since the program’s inception.
The Pirates are the first DI lacrosse program to have their 2021 season suspended.
