Chris Gabrielli and the Providence Friars got some good news on Monday, as Trinity, Pa., faceoff man Justin Bordner verbaled to the Friars. He is the eight commitment in the class of 2022 for the Friars and first at the faceoff position.

“The coaches gave me unbelievable support. Coach Francis and Coach Gabrielli helped me through every step and made sure I was comfortable.,” Bordner told Lacrosse Bucket.

Providence associate head coach Matt Francis initially reached out to Boordner in early December. While in-person recruiting and visits are still off the table due to the recruiting dead period implemented by the NCAA, Bordner was able to get up to Providence on his own last Friday and see campus for himself. “I fell in love as soon as I stepped on campus!, Bordner said. “That made my decision on Providence instantly.”

As a freshman at Cumberland Valley, Pa., in 2019 Bordner scored three goals and dished out nine assists, in addition to a strong performance at the faceoff dot. He did not get a sophomore season due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

On film, the junior shows a very strong ability to win the initial clamp and come up with clean offensive exits. He also can stay on and be an impact as a shooter on offense. Bordner said that two areas of his game that he is looking to improve is his general speed and hand speed. “I am really looking to improve my speed, hand speed, and when I lose the clamp on the faceoff playing from behind.

Coming into his junior season, Bordner mentioned that he has some big goals for both his team and himself. “My goal of course is to win a state championship,” Bordner said. “I feel Trinity has a pretty good shot if we play as a team and really work together! Goals for myself is to win at least 80% of my faceoffs this spring and score at least 20 goals!”
