Former North Carolina goalie Caton Johnson will be transferring to Ohio State next season. The junior put his name in the transfer portal in February and subsequently left the Tar Heels’ roster.
Ty Xanders of Inside Lacrosse was the first to report the news.
During his time in Chapel Hill, Johnson started in 13 games throughout the 2019 and 2020 seasons and recorded a career total of 129 saves with a 51% save percentage. He was named the 2019 ACC Freshman of The Year.
At Ohio State, Johnson walks into a situation where he will be able to, at least, compete for the starting job in 2022. The Buckeyes lose primary starter Alec Van De Bovenkamp, who grad transferred from Furman prior to the 2021 season.
Junior Skylar Wahlund started the first three games of the season in cage for the Buckeyes, making 25 saves with a 37% save percentage.
The Buckeyes are coming off a 4-7 season that saw them end the season on a three-game losing streak, which included a Big Ten quarterfinal loss to arch-rival Michigan.
