The PLL took a break from regular-season play this past weekend as the league descended upon San Jose, Calif., for the second ever PLL All-Star Game.

Adversaries took home the win, 23-21, against Defenders in a prototypical high-scoring contest that saw tons of flair from the opening draw through the final buzzer. And while it was a typical all-star game in the sense that the two offenses put up points like it was nothing, it was a goalie that stole the show.

Redwoods’ Tim Troutner made 24 saves for Adversaries in the victory and earned MVP honors for his play. Additionally, Troutner raised $12,000 ($500 per save) for Oakland Lacrosse. The High Point product’s biggest highlight of the night came on the offense end where he scored a behind-the-back goal late in the third quarter to put his team up by four heading into the final stanza.

In addition to Troutner’s stellar play, Will Manny put up nine points off six goals to help lead the way for the Adversaries’ offense. Bryan Costabile hit a two-pointer and celebrated with a backflip to woo the crowd in the first half and help push his team ahead.

Adversaries took a 10-5 lead the the half, Defenders had a comeback in them. Following a two-bomb from Josh Byrne and a behind-the-back goal from Ryan Drenner on the doorstep late in the game, things were cut to 23-21. Defenders had a final look at the cage in the final seconds of play, but it went wide and Adversaries were able to take home the victory.
