After a season that saw Kevin Cassese and the Mountain Hawks go 10-2 and end the season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Lehigh will return two crucial members of their defense for a fifth season.
On Wednesday afternoon, Lehigh announced via social media that goalie James Spence and LSM Teddy Leggett would be returning to the Mountain Hawks for a fifth and final season in 2022.
A four-year starter, Spence has amassed a career total of 513 saves with a .532% save percentage. During the 2021 season, Spencer made 142 saves with a 56% save percentage to anchor a Mountain Hawks defense which ended the season ranked 18th nationally (10.17 goals allowed per game).
Spencer was named a 2021 USILA Honorable Mention All-American and ended the year ranked 15th nationally in goals-against average (9.83) and 14th in save percentage.
Leggett led the Mountain Hawks in caused turnovers with 15 and finished the season second on the team in ground balls (43) during the 2021 season. The Ontario native was subsequently named second-team All-Patriot League. He was also an All-Patriot League selection as a freshman in 2018 and sophomore on 2019.
Spence and Leggett return to lead a Defense that returns a majority of talent from last season and could very well be a top-20 unit nationally once again in 2022.
