The Loyola Greyhounds are the 14th DI program and first in the Patriot League to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Greyhounds are coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 10-6 (4-3 Patriot League) and saw their season end with a 10-9 loss against Duke in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Greyhounds’ 2022 Schedule:
|3/26||Loyola||Army West Point||Patriot League|
|4/2||Holy Cross||Loyola||Patriot League|
|4/16||Loyola||Boston U.||Patriot League|
Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Rutgers
Richmond, Utah, Virginia
2/19 @ Johns Hopkins: After not being able to play last season, the Battle of Charles Street returns as the Greyhounds and Blue Jays meet for the 58th time. While Johns Hopkins holds a commanding 48-9 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1939, six of Loyola’s nine wins in the series have come over the past decade with the Greyhounds going 6-1 against the Blue Jays since 2013. Loyola won their last meeting in 2020, 10-7, in a contests where they had to hold off a fourth-quarter Johns Hopkins run.
3/2 vs Towson: Loyola kicks off its March slate against rival Towson. The two squads have split the past two meetings with Loyola boat racing Towson, 15-6, in 2020 before the Tigers won in overtime, 7-6, this past spring in a comeback victory after the Greyhounds led 5-2 early in the third. Loyola leads the all-time series 33-31 and has only faltered three times in the series since 2008.
4/19 vs Georgetown: Loyola’s biggest regular-season win of the season last year came against the Georgetown Hoyas as they upset the eventual Big East champion, 11-9, in the final game of the regular season. The win was part of a late-season hot streak for the Greyhounds and helped them find their way into the NCAA Tournament. The two familiar foes, who have played all but a few seasons since 1970, go head-to-head late in the season again in 2022 for what should be a highly-anticipated matchup.
4/30 vs Lehigh: The Loyola Greyhounds are 15-1 against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks all-time. That sole loss came last season as the Mountain Hawks came into Ridley Athletic Complex and beat the Greyhounds 10-6. The two were supposed to play a second time in the Patriot League title game, but a positive case of coronavirus inside the Loyola program cancelled the game. Playing the last weekend of the regular season, the contest between these two could very consequential for both sids and could be a preview of the Patriot League title game.
