The UAlbany Great Danes are the 26th DI program and fourth from the America East to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Great Danes are coming off a campaign in 2021 in which they went 8-5 overall (5-3 America East) against an America East-heavy schedule. Their season came to an end in the America East title game, falling 15-10 to Vermont.
Great Danes’ 2022 Schedule:
|3/26||UAlbany||Stony Brook||America East|
|4/2||UMass Lowell||UAlbany||America East|
Cornell, Drexel, Maryland, Penn, Siena, Yale
Colgate, Hartford (withdrawn from America East play)
2/19 @ Cornell: The Danes open up the season against the Cornell Big Red for the second time in three seasons. UAlbany has faltered each of their last two times out against the Big Red, losing 19-10 on the road in 2020 and 17-16 at home in 2019. With both looking to be top-tier teams in their respective conferences again this season, it should be an intriguing early-season matchup.
3/8 vs UMass: Playing every season since 2009, the Danes and Minutemen have given college lacrosse one of the better inter-conference, mid-major series in recent years. UAlbany won last year’s meeting 13-12 in game in which the Danes never trailed but also never got up by more than three. It should be another close and physical, mid-week game between these two.
4/9 vs Syracuse: The Syracuse Orange have never taken the nearly three hour trip South to the New York State capital to play the Danes. That all changes this season when the Orange, led by a first-year head coach in Gary Gait, walk into Tom & Mary Casey for the first time ever. Syracuse won last year’s meeting 13-8. The Dane’s lone win over the Orange in 19 meetings came in 2018 when they blasted them, 15-3.
4/16 vs Vermont: UAlbany and Vermont played each other three times last season and it was the Catamounts who came out on top all three times. That includes a 15-10 victory over the Danes in the America East title game. With both teams expected to be top-tier programs in the America East once again, expected another good contests between these two. It may be a preview of the conference title game again.
