The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are the 39th DI team and first from the Big Ten to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 9-4 overall (8-2 Big Ten) against a conference-only regular season. They saw their season end in the NCAA Quarterfinals in an overtime loss to North Carolina.
Scarlet Knights’ 2022 Schedule:
|2/19||Rutgers||Army West Point|
|3/27||Rutgers||Ohio State||Big Ten|
|4/3||Rutgers||Johns Hopkins||Big Ten|
|4/24||Rutgers||Penn State||Big Ten|
Army West Point, Hofstra, Lafayette, LIU, Loyola, Marist, Princeton, Stony Brook, St. John’s
2/19 vs Army West Point: Last meeting in 2020, the Black Knights stunned the Scarlet Knights, 15-4. It marks the last game in which Rutgers was held to single digits. With Rutgers coming off an NCAA Quarterfinal run and Army looking to be a threat in the Patriot League once again, this one will likely go a bitt differently and could even be a defensive battle on both sides with the amount of talent each has on the back end.
2/26 @ Loyola: Another early-season Big Ten-Patriot League battle, the Scarlet Knights first big road test of the year comes against the Loyola Greyhounds. Both of these teams are expected to be at or near the top of their respective conferences and have high expectations after making the NCAA Quarterfinals a year ago. The last time these two squads played in 2020, Loyola bested Rutgers 11-10. This could be another tight one between these two.
3/12 @ Princeton: Rutgers will travel to face in-state rival Princeton as the two will battle for the Tots Meistrell Cup for the first time since 2020 after not being able to play last season. Since 2017, the coveted trophy has switched hands every other year. Last meeting in 2020, the Tigers defeated the Scarlet Knights 16-11. Princeton leads the all-time series 64-31-3 in 98 meetings.
4/10 @ Maryland: The Scarlet Knights and Terrapins faced each other twice last season with Maryland winning both battles. It was a 19-12 game in the first meeting and 13-9 in the second meeting between these two. This game will likely be between the two top teams in the Big Ten and possibly have postseason implications. It is one of the games many will be circling in the Big Ten, and a win for Rutgers would be huge.
