Just as the 2022 head coaching carousel looked like it had finally ended another job came open as Mercer men’s lacrosse coach Chad Surman stepped down from his post earlier this week. Mercer is the eight DI program to have a head coaching opening this summer.

Ty Xanders of Inside Lacrosse was the first to report the news on Wednesday night.

Surman’s resignation comes after just two seasons at the helm of the Bears. He took over the program on an interim basis in August of 2020 before having interim tag was removed in late October of the same year.

During his two seasons at the helm, the Bears went 10-18 (4-7 SoCon). That includes a campaign this past spring that saw Mercer go 5-10 overall and 2-3 in SoCon play.

The Bears will be entering the ASUN next season.
