Recruiting Notebook: Georgetown, Penn State Land Big Flips

On Monday, both the Georgetown Hoyas and Penn State Nittany Lions landed flips from midfielders in the 2023 class.

The Georgetown Hoyas landed a commitment from Fairfield Prep (Conn.) midfielder Peter Grandolfo. The 5-foot-10 rising senior had previously been committed to Bucknell.

Grandolfo is as quick as they come, proving to be a constant matchup nightmare from defenders. He missed some time early this past spring due to injury, playing in only 12 of the Friars’ 20 games. Grandolfo was productive as usual in those 12 games he saw action in, ending the season with 30 goals and seven assists while helping lead his squad to an SSC title.

The ankle breaking midfielder is the fourth pickup in the class for the Hoyas this month, joining a trio of attackmen in Paxton Marshall (Victor, N.Y.), Charlie Hoffman (St. Sebastians, Mass.), and Will Coale (Brunswick, Conn.).

Penn State landed a commitment from St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) midfielder Joe Calandrino on Monday night. Calandrino was previously committed to Maryland.

Helping lead the Friars to a New York Catholic Athletic Association title, Caladrino has shown to be an uber-athletic middie who can get it done on both ends of the field. He is rated as a four-star by Inside Lacrosse.

He joins defenseman Jaden Jenkins and attackman Patrick Carragher, Calandrino as the third St. Anthony’s product in the Nittany Lions’ 2023 class.
