Iona to Add Men’s Lacrosse

Iona University announced on Monday afternoon that it would be adding men’s lacrosse starting with the 2024-25 season.

Located in New Rochelle, N.Y., the Gaels are full time members of the MAAC and currently have a DI women’s program.

The news was first reported by Chris Jastrzembski on Monday afternoon.

Iona will become the 76th DI program on the men’s side. It’s the first new program since Utah and St. Bonaventure began play in 2019.

The addition of Iona will grow the MAAC to 11 teams. The league added LIU, Sacred Hart and Wagner from the NEC this summer and lost St. Bonaventure to the A-10.

“With Iona University adding men’s lacrosse as a varsity sport, the MAAC Men’s Lacrosse League will expand even more,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor in a press release. “With our 10 current teams, Iona will strengthen the league and make our already competitive league even better.”
